10 essential Amazon Black Friday sale strategies

Don’t get caught up in the fury of Black Friday without a plan. Use these 10 quick tips to get the most savings from your Amazon buys this weekend.

    1. Download the Amazon app
    2. Make sure your Prime membership is active: Some deals are exclusive to Prime members.
    3. Create a wish list: Deals are likely to evolve over the weekend and on Cyber Monday. Use Amazon’s wish list feature to track price changes quickly.
    4. Set up one-click ordering (or not): One-click ordering can streamline your shopping process, but only set it up if you aren’t prone to impulsive shopping.
    5. Bookmark Amazon’s Black Friday hub page: Here you go. Use the hub page to keep track of deals and browse what’s trending.
    6. Price shop: Remember that a discount doesn’t always mean a good deal. Do quick price checks before you add to cart.
    7. Read reviews carefully: Go deeper than checking the star rating. Read the actual text of the reviews. There are times when the reviews don’t match the product you’re shopping, which means that star rating is not useful.
    8. Check return policies: For years, I had great experiences with Amazon returns. But lately, things have been a little more challenging. Don’t assume that everything is returnable, because that’s not always the case.
    9. Check your email for unused Amazon gift cards: If you’re like me, you earn Amazon gift cards for things like uploading receipts in Fetch and sharing your fitness data with Evidation. Those gift cards usually end up lost in your email. Before you shop Amazon this Black Friday, do a quick check for forgotten gift cards hiding in your inbox.
    10. Take a deep breath: Buying stuff just to save money is counterproductive financially. Before you buy, take a deep breath and ask yourself if you really need it.

  • What Is My Style? 25 Personalities & the Styles They Love • budget FASHIONISTA

What Is My Style? 25 Personalities & the Styles They Love • budget FASHIONISTA

The TV show “Gilligan’s Island” featured two very distinct versions of female style: sweet country girl Mary Ann and glamorous, leading lady Ginger. Can you imagine Mary Ann donning one of Ginger’s slinky dresses? It just doesn’t seem to work, right?

The Mary Ann/Ginger dichotomy points to the role that personality plays in style. Have you ever wondered why you gravitate to certain looks and shy away from others? Some women love sporty ensembles, while others dress to the nines just to shop for groceries. The simple answer is that you wear what you like. But what you like — well, that comes from who you are and how you think.

    1

    Personality testing and fashion

That’s why knowing more about who you are can help you define and optimize your personal style. There are many personality frameworks out there. Two interesting ones are the 16 personalities test and Enneagram types.

Below is an overview of the 16 personalities plus nine Enneagram types, along with a description of the styles each personality warms to. If you haven’t taken either personality test before, it might be fun to review the descriptions first and predict which suits you best. If you have taken these tests, use the information below to home in on your style needs and identify ways to break outside your comfort zone.

    16 personalities and style

One of the 16 personality types fits you, and that can surface some fun insights about your style needs. Below are overviews of each type along with style notes for each one.

    Logistician: Reserved, trustworthy, hardworking

Responsibility, hard work, and dedication are all core traits of this personality. By nature, you’re more reserved — and your wardrobe follows suit. Crisp, clean, and flawless pieces that are more classic than trendy are your favorites. You wear them everywhere from the office to dinner. Think “no fuss” when browsing the racks and lean more in the traditional direction.

You’re sure of yourself from head to toe. Choose tailored trousers with straight legs, smart white button-down tops, and sharply cut blazers that flatter your figure. Pencil skirts nod to your appreciation for old-school glamour. Your pops of color arrive via subtly patterned silk scarves, the occasional statement necklace, or a lithe shell peeking out beneath a cardigan in the same color family.

    Defender: Gentle, meticulous, thoughtful

Loyalty is your gift, and you take pride in being there for those who need you. You take others’ feelings seriously, and you are strategic in everything that you do. That’s evident in the thoughtfully conceived outfits you wear daily, whether you’re headed to work or enjoying a picnic with family and friends. Smart pieces that prioritize fit over trends take precedence.

Choosing unfussy pieces is the best way to make your statement. You’re all about harmony and peace, so anything that complements your figure and creates a streamlined silhouette from top to bottom earns major points in your wardrobe. A-line skirts paired with light silk tanks and strappy heels are quietly elegant and forever flattering. You’re more conservative than not, so neutral hues with subtle pops of color work best.

    Executive: Outgoing, reliable, efficient

If there’s anyone who gets things done, it’s you. You’re driven by logic, details, and facts, all of which help you draw intelligent conclusions. Your sartorial pursuits are similar, particularly focusing on efficient pieces that serve a purpose — keeping you cool, warming you up, or flattering your figure, for example. You love something that works for you.

There’s a certain charisma about your wardrobe choices. You favor quality and never shy away from pieces that are structured, classic, and elegant. When you’re dressing up, you may turn to a delicate floral pattern to express your softer side. No-fail additions include denim jackets, stretchy leggings, lightweight shawls, comfortable sneakers, and relaxed tunics.

    Consul: Thorough, caring, supportive

You prioritize the needs of others and make sure that everyone is happy — without sacrificing your own comfort, of course. That’s why you appreciate soft, cozy, and comfortable pieces that bring balance to a sometimes chaotic world, allowing you to manage the daily grind without losing sight of your penchant for style. You aren’t necessarily a trendsetter, but you enjoy a good trend.

What better way to stay cozy than in loungewear designed for a laid-back lifestyle? Sure, you aren’t exactly living that low-key life, but you love the plush feel of a soft, airy tunic over stretchy leggings. Jersey fabric dresses, chunky knit sweaters, and buttery turtlenecks all play major roles in your closet, and everything you wear looks great with a pair of ballet flats or low-profile pumps.

    Advocate: Organized, gentle, harmonious

You know what you want, and you bring your ideas to the table without apology. Whether you’re settling a workplace matter or calming an argument, you take a positive approach and mean every word you say. That same mentality elevates your wardrobe with crisp, flawless essentials that don’t break too much from tradition. You focus first on comfort but appreciate a little added spice — usually something that reflects your personal interests.

You make your mark in clothes that are as forward-thinking as you are. While they’re comfortable and fairly classic, they express you in all your glory — the energy that drives you, the passion that powers your do-good spirit. Look for pieces that are slightly unconventional: a menswear-inspired blazer in an offbeat color, a pair of cigarette-slim pants with cuffed hems, a wrap blouse that adds jewel tones to neutral outfits.

    Mediator: Creative, caring, curious

Your creativity goes a long way in every area of your life, including your sense of style. You use your imagination to bring even the most basic looks to life, and you give equal time to everything from a solid black T-shirt to a wildly printed dress. You won’t say no to something that’s eye-catching, but you’re just as fond of casual pieces you can dress up with a little something that’s all you.

Thinking outside of the box is what you do best. Silky track pants, boldly patterned maxi skirts, off-the-shoulder blouses with ruffled accents — you’ll try anything once, and you’re excited when your creative spirit brings the simplest looks to life. For that, you rely on major accessories: bold statement necklaces, oversized handbags, brilliant scarves, and chunky cocktail rings.

    Protagonist: Social, philanthropic, sensitive

As a responsible person who prides herself on fantastic organizational skills and a boundless zest for life, you embrace the good in everything. Your taste in fashion is emblematic of that enthusiasm, with occasional trendy pieces mixed with timeless classics to create one-of-a-kind looks that represent your style. You don’t go overboard, though, and are generally rooted in simple, comfortable outfits.

Refined silhouettes and warm colors set the tone for your wardrobe. They’re dependable like you, yet never boring. You love a plain white tee and a pair of well-worn jeans just as much as you do a pleated sweater dress and booties. Your outfits convey authority and confidence, and you never fail to make a great first impression. Neutral satchels, classic gold or silver hoops, and thin chains all make the grade for you.

    Campaigner: Optimistic, joyous, inspiring

You never apologize for your confidence, boldness, and forward-thinking nature. You have a positive outlook that shines in your style choices, be it a pair of bright shoes or a quirky handbag that sets your outfit apart from anything else. You’re anything but simple in your choices.

Forget about the same ol’, same ol’ where your style is concerned. You’ll readily wear the denim, button-down mini skirt with a sequined tank top and open-toe booties on a night out. A sleek jumpsuit with a chunky statement necklace was made for you, just as much as a bohemian-influenced top with leggings. The beauty of you is in your confidence — you’ll wear any of these looks with your head held high.

    Architect: Imaginative, logical, independent

Your confidence and intelligence may put you on another planet from the mainstream, and that’s just the way you like it. A strategic thinker, you love acquiring new knowledge and checking goals off your to-do list — and when you set your mind on style, few will have you beat. Even so, style can be burdensome to you when higher pursuits have your attention.

In your perfect world, your closet is filled with versatile, mix-n-match pieces that’ll combine to take you anywhere. You love blazers, feminine blouses, pencil skirts, and tailored trousers, along with more comfortable options like leggings and tunics. You aren’t scared of making a statement, but only when it feels right. Keep a collection of fun and colorful accessories on hand to take advantage of those opportunities.

    Logician: Flexible, resolved, intellectual

People turn to you when they’re in the throes of a problem — and you never fail to come through. You can thank your flexibility, forward-thinking habits, and imagination for your reputation as a reliable fixer. For all that effort, though, you prefer to be heard instead of seen. And that’s strongly conveyed through strategic wardrobe choices that keep you strictly out of the spotlight.

You are purposeful in your clothing selections. You’ve got a dependable rotation of classic pieces, from simple sheath dresses and tailored pants to sweatpants and tank tops. If there’s any break from this safe code of style ethics, it’s the occasional bright color designed to shake things up. You favor cuts that flatter — nothing form-fitting here, thanks — and your accessories are understated and timeless.

    Commander: Ambitious, approachable, organized

You are undoubtedly the leader in the room, and you’re proud of your ability to remain cool and collected in the face of chaos. There’s a method to all that you do, and people turn to you for your combination of book and street smarts. You trust in the classic pieces that have proven themselves reliable over the decades — those key pieces that every woman should have in her wardrobe.

Fashion isn’t the most important detail in your life, but it’s easy for you to select the most flattering pieces simply because you know exactly what you like. Crisp tan trench coats, structured blazers, smart trousers, sleek pencil skirts, and low-profile heels all work like a charm for you. When you’re feeling casual, you love pieces that are easy — yoga pants, jeans, and throw-on-and-go tops are essential.

    Debater: Engaged, inventive, inquisitive

You’re not one for routine, which is why you’re not likely to wear jeans and a tee every single day of the week. You’re interested in norm-breakers and rule-shakers — unconventional pieces that take their cue from basics but go in entirely different directions. You’re not afraid to try something new to determine if it’s right for you and won’t be scared off if it doesn’t work.

Let loose! You’re up for anything from skinny jeans and knee-high boots to leather pants and gothic blazers. It’s your natural curiosity for all things and connection with fun style that makes everything an approachable option for you, even if it’s something that you wouldn’t normally imagine you’d wear. Accessories are your best friends, and you love using them to complete your outfits.

    Virtuoso: Reserved, logical, quick

Getting the job done right is what you do best, and you pride yourself on your analytical mind and ability to frame situations in different lights. You’re pragmatic and efficient, and those traits shine in your preferred outfits that symbolize how you feel about fashion — basically, you haveto wear clothes, and they should be as fastidious and sensible as you.

To that end, it’s all about hard-working wardrobe essentials. Think of the basics — the little black dress, the denim jacket, the structured blazer, the wide-leg pant, the smartly tailored jean. You aren’t averse to adventurous, less classic options, such as cropped pants and floaty tops, so long as they’re comfortable and flattering. You love to wear color, but it comes in second thanks to the many stylish neutrals that dominate your closet.

    Adventurer: Sensitive, elegant, thoughtful

Sweetness and light may well have been the code words that defined you from the start. You’re a sensitive soul who finds joy in helping others and in the peace and harmony that surrounds you. Your style mirrors this penchant for no drama, and you veer toward quietly stylish, effortlessly designed pieces in soft color palettes.

It’s easy for you to find pieces you love thanks to the abundance of cozy knits and romantic pastels that fill the racks. Dainty details, like delicate bows and ditsy floral prints, add sweet accents to tea-length dresses, pencil skirts, and airy tops. Ballet flats and sporty slip-on sneakers are equal partners in your wardrobe, while light chains and bracelets add minimal finishing touches.

    Entrepreneur: Vivacious, spontaneous, active

You know how to mingle, and you do so with a smile and a positive attitude. You love grabbing the proverbial bull by the horns, and there’s no better way for you to show your spirit than through your clothing choices. Statement pieces were made for you, from the accent garment that breaks up the monotony to the head-turning accessory that appears straight off the runway.

Your spontaneous streak means you probably don’t put a whole lot of thought into every single outfit. And you don’t need to, since your closet is likely full of garments that do all the work for you. Jewel tones and bold stripes serve you well, and you can’t get enough of a smart suit with something bold peeking out from beneath. You wouldn’t say no to a pair of sleek heels or a slouchy-chic handbag.

    Entertainer: Friendly, lively, playful

You’ve never met a party you didn’t like — and the same applies to an adventurous article of clothing. You’re not afraid to try new things, mingle with complete strangers, and embrace spontaneous styles that look good to you at a glance. That could be anything from a color you’ve never worn before to a quirky print that stands out in a crowded room.

You’re all about fun and good times, both of which are readily expressed through your style. An edgy cropped pantsuit, a cutoff tee with runway-worthy track pants, a pair of sky-high stiletto heels — you can tick these off one by one for a look you’ll love. Even your loungewear is more of the creative variety, from plush velour pieces to luxe, off-the-shoulder knits with form-fitting leggings.

    Enneagram types and style

The nine Enneagram types are described below, along with a few style notes.

    Perfectionist: Purpose-driven, disciplined

You are on a mission to be your best self and bring the world along with you for the ride. Your passion and instinct drive you in the direction that feels right, but only if you can justify that direction with logic.

You are a master of dressing for the occasion, even if you occasionally overthink your style choices. You like structured, classic pieces but not exclusively. Your ideal outfit is often comprised of tried-and-true separates with one trendy accessory.

    Helper: Giving, protective

You are loving and supportive and your style reflects that. You prefer comfy, approachable pieces in warm and inviting hues. Cardigans with ponte pants make for a perfect work outfit. On the weekends, you like joggers and soft t-shirts.

    Achiever: Practical, driven

You are pragmatic and charming but also self-oriented. You strive to make a good impression, always, in style and in spirit. You like to wear the latest and greatest trends, but it can leave your practical side frustrated when your closet is full of outdated pieces at the end of the season.

    Individualist: Moody, articulate

Woman wearing floral dress raises her arms outside.
    Source: Envato.

You are in a class of your own, though you love forging deep connections with others. You feel all your feeling and you love beautiful things. As such, you are drawn to pretty pieces that flow elegantly, such as Boho dresses, floral patterns, and organic accessories like woven bags and leather bracelets.

    Investigator: Insightful, creative

You are curious and perceptive. Your comfort zone is in utilitarian, unobtrusive garments that allow you to think profoundly. You lean into soft fabrics, neutral colors, and comfortable shapes that reflect your analytical and attentive nature. Maxi dresses and soft denim jeans are your mainstays.

    Loyalist: Dedicated, cautious

You are cautious and tend to worry, but you are also a steadfast and loyal friend. Your clothing choices tend to stay within convention. You wear jeans and t-shirts on casual days and sheath dresses and flats for business occasions. You might benefit from expanding gently outside your comfort zone with a colorful scarf or a bold nail color.

    Enthusiast: Impulsive, joyful

You love adventure and spontaneity. You are perpetually cheery, even if also sometimes distracted and unorganized. Your fashion sense is fluid. You might fall in love with a trendy style of boot one week and then be all about sandals the next. Use that changing energy to create outfit combos that reflect you and your many facets.

    Challenger: Assertive, determined

You are confident and outspoken, to the extent that few who know you will cross you. You prefer bold, statement-making pieces. Play up your strong personality with powerful silhouettes, vivid colors, and high-quality materials.

    Peacemaker: Relaxed, approachable

You are calm and soothing. People are drawn to you for your relaxed and cheerful nature. Fashion may not be a priority for you, since you don’t feel a compelling need to wear garments that make one impression or another. Lean into your personality with soft fabrics like knits and organic cotton. Easy silhouettes like joggers and casual rompers are comfortable go-tos.

    Personality and personal style

FWIW, I’m an architect on the 16 Personalities test and a Perfectionist according to Enneagram. I like organized closets, mix-and-match pieces, and fun accessories. No surprise there.

So how do I use this info? Well, when I’m feeling like my wardrobe options are inadequate, the personality notes can help me identify what’s missing. I can also look at what’s outside my style comfort zone to stretch my style chops. That could mean tapping into Campaigner world and picking up a Boho dress or top just to shake things up.

You can do the same. Knowing yourself makes you more confident about creating outfits that feel right and experimenting with new looks. That’s what style’s all about, right?

Oppenheimer and Barbie came away as big winners in the first award show of 2024. In other highlights, the metallic dress unofficially earned the popularity award for being more present throughout the event than Margot Robbie or the entire cast of Succession.

    Stealth wealth beauty wins

Despite the prominence of the metallic dress, it could not distract from the beauty trends of the Globes. This year, beauty was all about lustrous hair and skin — anchors of the stealth wealth beauty trend. As a recap, stealth wealth is about fresh, glowing skin you get from a regimen of facials plus a healthy lifestyle.

I can’t help you get your full eight hours of beauty rest nightly, but I can share insiders’ tips on beauty treatments — and where to get them. Celebrity makeup artists (MUAs) for Ted Lasso‘s Hannah Waddingham and Gone Girl‘s Rosamund Pike agree: Image Skincare is their choice for safeguarding that fresh-face look.

Read on for the pre- and post-makeup treatments MUAs used on Waddingham and Pike to create that glowing, red-carpet-ready look. These are all products you can buy on Amazon.

    Waddingham’s pre-Globes beauty treatment

Celeb beauty stylist Stephen Sollitto chose five Image Skincare products to prep and set Waddingham’s makeup for the Globes:

    1. I MASK hydrating hydrogel sheet mask ($10)
    2. VITAL C hydrating anti-aging serum ($88)
    3. VITAL C Hydrating Intense Moisturizer ($82)
    4. VITAL C Hydrating Eye Recovery Gel ($60)
    5. VITAL C Hydrating Facial Mist ($42)

    I MASK

If you have time as we did, I suggest starting with Image Skincare’s I MASK hydrating hydrogel sheet mask. Filled with a blend of amino acids, antioxidants, and soothing aloe vera this will leave the skin feeling dewy. Unwrap this sheet mask and let it sit on the skin for 10 minutes. Once off I let the skin dry first before I start with my serum.

    Stephen Sollitto, celebrity makeup artist

I MASK is a $10 treatment that reduces the appearance of fine lines and brightens dull skin. We should all have one or two of these in a bathroom drawer, in case of emergency. This mask would make an excellent gift also.

    Hydrating anti-aging serum

For dry skin, this serum leans on Vitamin C, aloe, and hyaluronic acid to hydrate and brighten. It’s a little spendy but if you shop quickly you can save 16% on Amazon.

    Hydrating intense moisturizer

An emollient crème that gives skin a dose of moisture and protection with oil-soluble Vitamin C peptides, and natural orange peel. You can use it twice daily. This one’s also on sale on Amazon currently.

    Hydrating eye recovery gel

Sollitto recommends using an extra eye product daily, to nourish the thin skin under the eye. Image Skincare’s Eye Recovery Gel is a cooling gel that soothes and firms the under-eye skin to reduce the look of puffiness and discoloration.

    Hydrating facial mist

This antioxidant Vitamin C spray will shield the skin from environmental stressors and leaves the skin fresh and ready for the carpet.

After completing Waddington’s makeup, Sollitto used a hydrating facial mist to keep her looking fresh all night long. Sugarcane extract, gold particles, and stabilized Vitamin C provide extra defense, energy, and moisture.

    Pike’s pre-Globes beauty treatment

Melanie Inglessis, Pike’s beauty stylist, also chose the Image Skincare Vital C line-up:

    • I MASK Hydrogel Sheet Mask ($10)
    • MD Restoring Eye Masks ($58)
    • I BEAUTY Refreshing Facial Wipes ($17)
    • Vital C Hydrating Facial Mist ($42)
    • VITAL C hydrating eye recovery gel ($60)
    • VITAL C hydrating repair cream ($85)
    • ORMEDIC balancing lip enhancement complex ($24)

So today’s look on Rosamund was all about skin! So preparing the skin prior to make up is a must for a luminous gorgeous skin!

    Melanie Inglessis, Celebrity MUA

    MD Restoring Eye Masks

Inglessis applied the I MASK hydrogel sheet mask and MD Restoring Eye Mask and left them on Pike for 20 minutes while the hairdresser worked some magic. The eye mask tackles fatigue specifically with a cooling gel that minimizes the look of fine lines.

    I BEAUTY Refreshing Facial Wipes

Cucumber and aloe vera wipes give skin a pick-me-up. This is another affordable product from Image that could end up being a beauty MVP.

Inglessis used them to remove excess product from the mask treatments.

    Vital C Hydrating Repair Creme

A powerful punch of hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and vitamins brightens and moisturizes skin.

    ORMEDIC Balancing Lip Enhancement Complex

I finished the skincare routine with ORMEDIC balancing lip enhancement complex which repairs and hydrate the lips. Perfect before lipstick!

Avocado oil, Vitamin E, and polypeptides work together in this lip complex to provide hydration that can enhance lip plumpness. Inglessis used it as a pre-color treatment, but you can also use it on top of color for extra shine.

  • The Scoop on the TikTok Fashion Trend • budget FASHIONISTA

The Scoop on the TikTok Fashion Trend • budget FASHIONISTA

If comfort is your priority in fashion, the trends have shifted your way. Get ready to embrace cozy girl style, an aesthetic that welcomes layers, luxe fabrics, and relaxed fits.

Read on to learn all about the cozy girl trend, how to style it, and the essential pieces for the cold months ahead. Special thanks to the fashion experts at Boohoo for sharing their research and insights on the trend.

    Cozy girl aesthetic defined

What’s cozy girl style? In some ways, it’s whatever you want it to be. The cozy girl trend is about wearing what’s comfortable and feels good.

But this is more than a fashion trend. Cozy girl spreads its influence into lifestyle, too. Like the vanilla girl and clean girl trends, cozy’s chic and relaxed aesthetic goes hand in hand with clean living, personal care, wellness, and mindfulness.

    How to: cozy girl style.
    Source: Envato.

Cozy girl has its roots in Gen Z, but we older ladies can jump on the bandwagon too. Scratch that — we older ladies should jump on the bandwagon. After all, some of us grew up thinking that certain shoes are worth getting blisters for. Or that it’s perfectly okay to buy jeans that are too small because we can always starve ourselves to lose 5 pounds.

When you think about it, we deserve cozy girl style. Not that anyone must earn the right to be comfortable, but we’ve suffered under the “no pain, no gain” outlook for too long. So I say, bring on the oversized knits, comfy leggings, coordinating loungewear sets, sneakers, and Uggs.

So this is a Gen Z trend and I’m well outside that generation — but I’ll happily wear a cozy outfit, sip a matcha tea, and meditate on becoming my best self.

    Key cozy pieces

Relaxed and oversized silhouettes reign supreme in the cozy girl era. The same is true for neutral tones and plush fabrics like cashmere, fleece, and wool. To generalize, this trend leans on outfits and pieces that are soothing — as easy on the body as they are on the eyes.

Key pieces to add to your shopping list, according to Boohoo, include:

    • Chunky knit sweaters. Knitwear is huge right now, if Pinterest search trends are any indication (and they are).
    • Oversized cardigans. The right cardigan functions like a stylish blanket that you can wear outside.
    • Tracksuits. Matching sets are perfect for the cozy, but also sporty lifestyle.
    • Sweatpants and joggers. Yes, old-school sweatpants are back.
    • Wide-legged pants. It was only a matter of time before the anti-skinny pant start trending.
    • Slip-on shoes. Look for fleece or fuzzy linings.
    • Sneakers. Fashion sneaks are always in style, so this is a purchase you won’t regret.
    • Boots. You need something to wear over your leggings on a cold day, right? Uggs or slouchy boots fit the bill.
    • Beanies or bucket hats, depending on the climate near you.

Plush and cozy winter outfit ideas

The biggest risk you take in implementing cozy-girl style is losing your shape beneath baggy garments. Remember these tips to keep your look polished and pulled-together:

    • Strive for balance: Include one fitted piece in your looks to offset oversized fits. You might, for example, pair a long, cowl-neck sweater with leggings. Or wear a structured denim jacket or faux leather shacket as outerwear. A French tuck that defines your waistline is also on-point.
    • Accessorize: A simple but striking piece of jewelry can easily elevate an outfit. Consider a cuff bracelet over your sweater sleeve or a pretty scarf at your neck.
    • Show some skin: Try an off-shoulder top or a cropped sweater. A hint of skin, if the weather allows it, is a powerful accent to a relaxed outfit.
    • Dabble in monochrome: Layering neutrals is very much within the cozy wheelhouse. You don’t have to be exact about your color-matching or rigid in your definition of neutrals, either. Try building an outfit out of similar pastel blues or soft greys, for example.

So let’s pull this all together. Here are four warm and comfortable — and trendy — outfits to inspire your personal style this winter.

    1. Crop sweater with cargo pants

    2. V-neck tunic and midi skirt

Anthropologie gives us a cozy look that’s upscale enough to take you to dinner and movie with someone special. You could optionally add some glam jewelry for extra sparkle. Or, skip the jewelry and make dinner at home, followed by some lounging and snuggling. Whatever you do, enjoy those seriously comfy vibes (while looking amazing).

    3.Cable knit and trouser

Lulus’ wine cable knit cardigan and checked, straight-leg trouser is the work outfit we all want to wear. And yes, you might want to add a cami underneath that cardi, but this combination proves that the cozy girl lifestyle isn’t solely for those working from home.

A set of coordinating sweats might be the coziest of outfits. This one from H&M works because the top piece is cropped and the bottoms are high-waisted — a flattering combo that’s anything but sloppy.

    Cozy style inspiration

For more inspiration, Boohoo’s fashion team recommends tuning into 1990s television and film. When Harry Met Sally and TV shows Gilmore Girls and Friends are good starting points.

Nostalgia plays a big part in the ‘cozy girl’ aesthetic, as classic watches like Gilmore Girls evoke the same sense of comfort and ease that the style seeks to achieve.

Adding cozy to your personal sense of style

This is one TikTok trend I’m rooting for. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, my own sartorial sense has been trending in this direction anyway. And it’s nice to know that comfortable and trendy don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

Also, this is a trend that’s easy to make your own — no stylist required. The main thing is to prioritize feeling comfortable, which should come naturally. And chances are, your favorite brands have plenty of soft fabrics and loose-fitting silhouettes you can mix and match with pieces you already own.

Hello Again – And Now There’s Three

    I

I feel like I’ve learned the hard way and what they say is absolutely true – the nights are long but the years are short. From the last post to this post, please meet our light and joy, Kinsley.

It’s been forever since I posted and to be quite honest, I miss writing and posting.  The world changed since I’ve been last on here.  Things, specifically online content, are faster and shorter now, and long form content like blogs and posts are not as favored.  I hope to post more regularly and hope that this site gives you a sense of stillness and calmness.  As you’re reading this, thank you for being here.

I thought these family photos are a perfect way to catch up and start again.  The last time I posted Kinsley was still in my belly.  She is one now.  ONE!  Where did the time go?!  This ride has been challenging and incredibly rewarding at the same time.  My pregnancy was honestly easy-ish, delivery was a nightmare, recovery was awful and for the first 6 – 8 months completely sleep-deprived.  But watching her grow has been my greatest joy.  She’s deeply observant, intensely interested in people, currently hates diaper changes and we think her love language is words of affirmation.

I’ll make sure to get back to my fashion posts and given the feedback I’ve gotten on Instagram, will post more reviews, sizing info and details.  With that being said, let’s start with this white blazer ($150) and white slip dress ($60).  Nowadays, I try very hard not to tailor anything, but when an item is so good, I make the investment.  This blazer + slip dress was worth the investment.

The blazer needed sleeves and length shorten (for sizing reference, I’m 5 feet tall and 110 pounds) and the slip dress needed the straps and length shorten.  For petite frames, you might have to tailor a little here and there for the perfect fit.  For non-petite frames, enjoy these two pieces!  And speaking on the material side – the blazer has a nice weight to it and the slip dress is silky soft with lots of movement.  Both are beautiful in person!

Thank you for being here!  Honestly, even though she’s one, I still can’t believe that – 1) I’m a MOM now and 2) She’s here!  I still pinch myself and think how did I get this lucky.

8 Essentials for a Stylish New Year’s Eve Party • budget FASHIONISTA

Ready to host your best New Year’s Eve party ever? Whether you have a standing date with friends and family on December 31 or you’re doing something extra this year, now’s the time to put the final touches on a party everyone will remember. Consider this your guide and checklist for truly memorable celebration and start to the new year.

    1. Your best NYE outfit

You are the hostess and it’s your time to shine. You can glow from head to toe in a track suit or a formal dress — as long as you’re feeling confident. To that end, do some serious planning ahead. Nothing kills confidence like scrambling last minute to make cookies when you should be getting dressed.

Also carve out time in your calendar soon for a hair cut, at-home facial, and DIY mani and pedi.

Now let’s talk about what to wear. Below are a few no-fail New Year’s Eve party outfit ideas. Use these as thought-starters to dream up an outfit that reflects your style and the theme of your party:

    1. Metallic midi skirt paired with a silky blouse
    2. Tank top with sequins teamed with faux leather pants
    3. Blazer-style sequined mini dress
    4. Glamorous one-shoulder jumpsuit and high heels
    5. Flapper-style dress with feather or fringe detail
    6. Bodysuit with elegant, wide leg pants
    7. Slip dress and moto jacket
    8. Silky wrap dress
    9. Menswear-inspired suit with a sexy camisole underneath
    10. Mini skirt in faux leather paired with an off-the-shoulder knit top

    2. Theme

The essentials you need for a memorable New Year's Eve party.
    Source: Envato.

Establishing a theme for your New Year’s Eve party provides parameters for the rest of your decisions. Having a theme also gives your guests a fun idea to rally around. As a stylish gal, you might warm to one of these ideas:

    1.  Old Hollywood: Decorate with lavender and silver and encourage guests to dress for the press, retro style. Roll out a red carpet and do your own hair in pin curls.
    2. Roaring 20s: Art deco-rate your place. You’ll wear a beaded dress and set Pandora to play jazz all night.
    3. Formal masquerade ball: Play up the jewel tones in your home and add some velvet touches. Have a stash of masquerade masks on hand and ask your guests to dress formally.

Alternatively, you can set a theme that invites your guests to get into the “new year” mindset. An example is an “Out with the Old” party. You can ask guests to write down experiences, emotions, and happenings from 2023 that they’d like to forget. Then have a ceremonial burning (in the fireplace of course) of those notes.

    3. Decorations

You don’t want the break the bank on party decorations, so think about investing in a few pieces that’ll make a big impact. At a minimum, set out a few centerpieces that match your theme. These can be simple floral arrangements, dressed up with supplies from your nearest craft store — velvet bows, sequined fabric at the base of a vase, feathers, seashells, glitter, candles, or mirrors.

You can also make tasteful NYE signs or banners. Or, even better, incorporate New Year 2024 pictures into your party invites. Then print out a blown-up version of that invite to use as a party decoration.

Finally, don’t forget a countdown timer. Set up an iPad or small TV screen with a countdown to midnight, so everyone will know when it’s time to toast.

    4. An amazing menu

Food and drink are essential components of any social gathering. But you don’t need to go over the top. You absolutely can create a memorable dining experience for your guests with four components: a signature drink, champagne or sparkling wine, easy appetizers, and indulgent desserts.

    Signature drink

Coming up with a signature drink isn’t as hard as it sounds. Try taking your favorite beverage and making one small tweak to it. Then give it a fun name and you’re ready to go.

As an example, you could make margaritas with jalapeno-infused tequila and call it the Hot Maggie. Or you could mix grapefruit-infused vodka with cranberry and club soda. You might name that one Sea Breeze Bubbler. Have fun with this — your guests will love it.

    Champagne and sparkling apple cider

Champagne and sparkling apple cider are must-haves for any NYE party. Have enough on hand for everyone to enjoy a small pour at midnight.

    Appetizers

The right appetizers for your party are easy to eat and not messy, sticky, or saucy. You don’t want someone to ruin her gorgeous velvet dress with drips of barbecue sauce. So steer clear of wings or anything saucy. Sweet-and-sour meatballs and similar dishes are non-starters.

Instead, choose appetizers that can be eaten in small bites with minimal utensils. Here are some ideas:

    • Sliced cheese and crackers
    • Prosciutto-wrapped melon (served with toothpicks)
    • Bacon-wrapped dates
    • Smoked salmon crostini
    • Chicken satay skewers
    • Deviled eggs

    Desserts

Follow the same rules for your dessert menu. Avoid sticky, fudgy desserts and opt for things like brownies and cookies. If you have the baking chops, set up a table with an assortment of desserts. Your guests will love picking their own combination of sweet treats.

Try these recipes from Blog Chef, our sister site:

    5. A playlist that pumps

Music sets the tone for your New Year’s celebration. Try building a playlist that begins with calm, relaxing tunes and builds into a party vibe by midnight. You can create your own playlist on Spotify or Pandora. Or borrower someone else’s NYE playlists on platforms like SoundCloud.

You can also ask your invitees to share their favorite tunes ahead of time. Compile all of them into a playlist that has something for everyone.

    6. Housewares

Once you finalize your guest list, peek into your cupboard to make sure you have enough champagne flutes and cocktail glasses. If you don’t, fill in with plastic. You can grab a set of 24 plastic flutes for less than $20. Better to spend your dough on good champagne than real glasses which may end up broken before the night is done.

You will also want to have a big stack of cocktail napkins, small paper plates, and toothpicks on hand for serving.

    7. Chic party favors

Everyone else will be handing out cheesy 2024 hats, glasses, and paper horns…why not do something different? Make your party extra memorable with one of these chic party favor ideas:

    • Glittery lip gloss for the ladies and travel-size men’s face wash for the guys
    • Mini champagne bottles
    • Artisan hand soaps
    • Homemade nut mix wrapped in cute jars
    • Satin eye masks
    • Mini succulents
    • Mini journal and pen sets

    8. Resolution board

You can inspire thoughtful conversation at your New Year’s celebration with a board where you and your friends write down your 2024 resolutions. All you need is a large poster board plus some markers. Add ink stamps and glitter if you run in an artistic crowd.

You could also write a motivational quote on the board to get everyone thinking about the possibilities for the year ahead. One that comes to mind is, “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” ~George Eliot, Middlemarch.

    To 2024 and beyond

Kick off the new year with a party your friends and family will remember. To do that, invest in an outfit that pumps up your confidence, plan ahead, and work in special touches like a signature drink and a resolution board. Then relax and enjoy this special time with your favorite people. Happy New Year!
