S-HE Gel-Like’n Ultra Stay Nail Polish

S-HE Gel-Like’n Ultra Stay Nail Polish

Though S-He products were some of the first I ever bought because back in the days before Essence and Catrice, this was the cheapest brand, I’ve never been a fan of the theirs. However, the nail polishes have been a highlight since their beginnings. They have a nice selection of colours and for an affordable price. The quality is good and they last well on the nails. This Gel-Like’n Ultra Stay formula is I think more new, but it doesn’t feel like a classic gel formula, at least not these two shades. They are classic thinner formulas. Their shade names are very bland, with just numbers.

    245

The nude 245 has a somewhat of an odd formula, as the first layer sort of separates, like I were applying it over an oily surface, but the second layer fixes all and it’s a nice opaque and even shade.

    310

The deep plum 310 is a jelly shade that’s even with the first coat, but isn’t opaque until the second. It’s like a mix of Essies’s Bahama Mama & Sole Mate.

These are 2,79 € in DM.

ORIFLAME Giordani Gold Age Defying Serum Boost Foundation

    Vanilla Neutral

This is Oriflame’s newest foundation. I find it’s very similar to their Pure Uforia formula, which I put in my 2023 favourites, so it’s another very lightweight, hydrating formula with a glowy finish and light-medium coverage. This one blends so easily and it’s a formula that suits my dry skin. I got the shade Vanilla Neutral, which is yellow-toned, so it’s not such a great match as Pure Uforia in Porcelain, but I can pull it off.

This colour is one of the best shades in my collection for my skin tone. It’s not too warm or too cool, it’s just a nice neutral pink that I currently wear all the time. The colour of the packaging is deceptive, as this is lighter on the lips.

ORIFLAME Giordani Gold Serum Infused Pearls

    Natural Radiance

Oriflame sure knows how to make a pretty highlighter. I’ve been a fan of their The One liquid highlighter and these pearls are another formula that create a natural looking radiance with fine shimmer. First layer is subtle, but it can be built up to quite a glow. Shade is a light champagne.

    BALEA Niacinamide Nachtcreme

Such a nice moisturiser formula. It’s rich, yet absorbs quickly and leaves a velvet, silicone-primer like feeling on the skin. It’s great for under makeup, not just as a part of the night routine. In comparison the SPF 30 version never really sets and feels heavier on the skin.

BODY BOOM Superstar Hydrating and Illuminating Face and Eye Cream

I don’t see this just as a face cream, but as a type of illuminating primer. It has very tiny shimmer in it that adds a lovely, non-greasy shine to the skin. The ratio of shimmer vs. cream is so well done in this formula. It’s great for under makeup or even no makeup looks if the skin looks dull. Formula is medium thick and absorbs quickly. It contains a several oils: Babassu, Crambe, Black Currant, Kukui, Avocado; and extracts: Acerola, Guarana, Kakadu Plum, Pomegranate. It also has Caffeine, Vitamin C in the form of Ascorbic Acid, but with no percentage stated (it’s way before fragrance), Hyaluronic Acid and Squalene.

    MIXA Ceramide Protect Hand Cream

I bought this as a replacement for my favourite Cerave cream that was out of stock. My hands were very dry back then and this fixed it so quickly. I’m not a fan of most hand creams because I want them to absorb immediately, yet be very thick and rich. This one is less thick than Cerave one, but still rich enough and it absorbs quickly enough that I’m not annoyed by it. It has no scent. I still love Cerave one more, but this one is cheaper, has double the amount and works the same.

    CERAVE Moisturising Cream

I loved this immediately. It’s very similar to their hand cream, so it has a rich texture and it spreads easily on the skin. It absorbs fast enough, but the best part for me is that it leaves this velvety finish. It’s one of the best creams for very dry skin.

TREACKLEMOON Brazilian Love Shower and Bath Gel

This is a straight up dupe in terms of scent for the Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream or their Brazilian 4 Play shower gel. It’s the same vanillary-nutty goodness. The scent is intense in the shower, but just like the SdJ scent it doesn’t last, which I why I’d like to have the body lotion or hand cream, but they aren’t sold here.

    ORIFLAME Miss Giordani Floral

    Eau de Parfum

This is a beautiful opulent floral, “sparkly” scent. When I say sparkly I mean it reminds of champagne when it’s still fizzing. The star in this fragrance is the sweet neroli. Other notes include tangerine, ginger, jasmine, tuberose, peony, ylang ylang, cedar wood and vanilla.

Wishlist and what’s new at the drugstore

DEBORAH MILANO Skin Booster BB Cream SPF 15 Shade 00 – I tried this in the shop and liked the texture. The shade 00 also looks very light and should suit me. I have too many foundations in my drawer, so I won’t get it, but if you’re looking for something new, this felt very promising. The vitamin C it mentions on the packaging is 3-O ethyl ascorbic acid.

L’ORÉAL PARiS Infaillible 3-second Setting Mist – Morphe has a mist in an aerosol, which is very praised because it has a super fine mist. L’Oreal made his own and it promises to keep the makeup in place for up to 36 hours. I have something similar from ArtDeco called the Anti-Pollution spray, but it’s more a refreshing/hydrating mist than a setting one.

TREND !T UP 2v1 Color & Boost Serum Eyeliner 010 – Stumbled upon this when I was still fuming about the changes made to the Catrice’s liquid eyeliner and I wanted to see what my option are regarding a cheap replacement. This claims to also boost the growth of lashes with the power of arginine.

GOT2B got GLOSS Shine Finish Spray – got2b discontinued two fantastic shine sprays in the last years. Hopefully this is a good replacement. It acts as a heat protectant too.

EVELINE COSMETICS Wonder Match Lumi – This is among the new things on DM’s website. I’m not a fan of the brand and most things I’ve tried aren’t as good as they could be, but I like their Satin Matt foundation. This one has a glowy finish and an SPF 20. It has niacinamide, arganine, vitamin C and hyaluronic acid.

EVELINE COSMETICS Look Up Eyeshadow palette – it’s clear what they are trying to copy. I have doubts this is good, since their powders generally don’t swatch smooth when I test them in the shop, but I like the colour combinations.

EVELINE COSMETICS Wonder Match 4 in 1 Velour Cheek & Lip Colour Balm – I saw 4 colours on these on the website, but not yet in person. It’s nice to see that cream blushes are becoming more popular.

EVELINE COSMETICS Variété Face & Body Liquid Highlighter – just a couple of months ago I had trouble finding a liquid highlighter in local drugstores, now two brands launched their versions. This one might be worth a try, since I’m not super pleased with the new Essence one.

WELLA PROFESSIONALS Ultimate Repair Miracle Hair Rescue – someone recommended this to me, but it’s pricy. I saw it has great reviews, but when it comes to hair care and my hair, what’s praised doesn’t necessarily work that well on me. This is a leave-in product with AHAs and Omega 9 that supposedly fixes the damage. After being disappointed with K18, which does nothing for my damaged, bleached hair, we’ll see if I’ll take a plunge with Wella Professionals.
NIVEA Luminous 630® Anti Stretch Marks & Dark Spots Body Cream and Body Oil-Serum – Nivea is expanding their range with Isobutylamido Thiazolyl Resorcinol, an ingredient that lightens dark spots. I already have the face SPF 50 version, which is lovely and a hand cream.

    Have a great day!

*ORIFLAME Giordani Gold Age Defying Serum Boost Foundation, BOURJOIS Velvet the Pencil 03 In Mauve Again, ORIFLAME Giordani Gold Serum Infused Pearls Natural Radiance, BODY BOOM Superstar Hydrating and Illuminating Face and Eye Cream, CERAVE Moisturising Cream and ORIFLAME Miss Giordani Floral Eau de Parfum were all PR products. But I was not asked to feature them in this post and this is not a paid promotion.

  • What are the different types of hair extensions?

What are the different types of hair extensions?

The world of hair extensions has exploded in recent years and we now have more choice than ever. Explore clip-in, tape-in, weave and more, and discover your ideal hair extension type with our complete guide.

    How Hair Extensions Are Made

Whatever type of extension you go for, they will fit into one of two categories; synthetic or natural.

Synthetic hair extensions are usually made from very fine plastic fibres created to mimic the look and feel of human hair. They are also cheaper than real hair extensions but don’t last as long and you need to be careful when styling as using heat will damage and melt the fibres.

Natural, or real, hair extensions are often valued more because they are hygienically taken from the hair donor. Throughout the process, the emphasis is on a clean environment, after which the hair is taken through a colour process to ensure optimum results. Most human hair comes from donors living in India and China and will blend into your own hair seamlessly. When they are well-maintained real hair extensions can last up to one year.

Rush Expert tip: if you want to know more about the differences in the two types of hair, be sure to ask at your local salon to get an informed opinion.

    Types of Hair Extensions, Explained

Once you’ve decided why you want hair extensions, the next decision is which type bests suits you and your needs. From clip-ins to fusion, check out our breakdown of various types to work out which one is for you.

    Clip-In Hair Extensions

If you’re someone who loves to switch up your look on a regular basis then clip-ins are ideal. You can add various colours and lengths to go from Margot Robbie in Barbie blonde to dramatic Zendaya in Dune in minutes, without even visiting the salon.

What’s more, this super easy option is also damage-free – there’s zero pressure, heat or  chemicals needed. Simply choose your preferred length and colour and clip each piece exactly where you like. With proper care and regular wear, your clip-ins will last anything from 3-6 months.

Rush Expert tip: If you’re nervous about applying your clip-ins for the first time, don’t be scared to ask your stylist if you can book in for a demonstration or tutorial.

    Tape-In Hair Extensions

Tape-in extensions are exactly how they sound. The extension has glue at the top which is attached to your natural hair, and another extension is attached on the other side of your natural hair.  Unlike clip-ins which can be done at home, you really want a professional to fit tape-in extensions to ensure accurate application.

Tape-ins are seen as a semi-permanent option, lasting from 4-8 weeks with proper care. When it comes time to get them re-installed or removed, you will need to book a salon appointment to ensure safe removal but the extensions can be used again.

Rush Expert tip: Be sure to ask your stylist which shampoo and conditioner to use at home as some products can cause tape-in extensions to become loose and even fall out.

    Micro Ring (Loop) Hair Extensions

Also known as micro bead extensions, this process sees tiny wefts of hair being attached to the natural hair by a small silicone-lined bead.

A special tool is then used to tighten the bead around the natural hair. As such this is a process that requires professional application, because if tightened too much, the bead can damage and pull on the hair.

Lasting up to 4 months, this method takes anything from 2-4 hours of salon time and you can wash them with your existing haircare products. These are a great semi-permanent option, as, when your natural hair begins to grow, you can go back to the salon to have the tiny beads tightened again.

Rush Expert tip: Talk to your stylist about how often you might need to come back to get the beads re-positioned.

    Weave (Sew-In) Hair Extensions

Weave hair extensions have become an uber-popular option for women who want epic length and incredible volume too. We’re talking, big Beyonce hair here!

In this process, wefts of hair are sewn into your existing natural hair, which has been cane-rowed (plaited) directly to the scalp. This means that your scalp will be visible and care should be taken to hydrate the scalp regularly. Weaves should only be done by professionals to ensure the braids are not overly tight as the hair can add quite a bit of weight. More often than not, weaves will involve using real hair, which means it can easily be sewn in again after being removed and washed. You can also use synthetic hair but remember you won’t be able to do any heat styling so you might feel limited style-wise.

Rush Expert tip: As a weave is meant to look like your hair, the key to wearing it well is ensuring the cut and colour are perfectly suited to your skin tone and bone structure.

    Fusion (Pre-Bonded) Hair Extensions

This process sees the extension fused to the natural hair with glue or another adhesive via a tool that should only be used by professionals. As the glue is directly applied to the hair, this is a semi-permanent option that comes with a risk of damage – including breakage, scalp irritation and hair loss. Depending on your hair type, your stylist might encourage you to consider another option.

    Wigs and Hair Pieces

Wigs have seen a rebirth over the past few years because they allow for immediate transformations and can be made bespoke via colour and cut. They are also a good option for anyone dealing hair loss who does not want to apply any tension to their scalp.

While wigs are great for covering the entire head, hair pieces are ideal for anyone who just wants to add a little oomph. A ponytail can quickly be added for a party look and a bun can be placed to add glamour to any bridal style. Just like with any other type of extension, wigs and hair pieces are available in synthetic and real hair options, but the synthetic ones will become tangled much more easily and cannot be styled using heat.

Rush Expert tip: If wigs and hair pieces are going to be your regular go-to, be sure to invest in a wig head, or two! This way you can keep your wigs tangle-free and ready to go.

Which Type of Hair Extension is Best for You

Now you’ve got a better picture of all the various types of hair extensions, it’s time to think about you and your lifestyle, because the best option is going to be the one that meets all your goals. Below is our list of top things to consider when choosing the right type of hair extension.

    • How does your work/family life constrain your commitment to keeping your extensions healthy?
    • How competent are you when it comes to styling your hair?

  • Dyeing Hair Extensions: Do’s And Don’ts

Dyeing Hair Extensions: Do’s And Don’ts

Dye job gone wrong? Before you break out the box dye on your hair extensions, pump the brakes! There are some crucial dos and don’ts you need to know first. So, can you dye your hair extensions? It’s a really popular question that we find ourselves being asked time and time again…so we’re here to set the record straight.

There are many reasons why people might want to dye their extensions. Perhaps you’ve had your set for a long time, and the colour needs a bit of a refresh. Or, you’ve dyed your natural hair and want your extensions to match but don’t want to spend the money on a brand-new set.

Whatever the reason, it’s understandable that you’d be tempted to reach for a bottle of hair dye and give it a go. But before you do, there are a few things you need to know.

With over 10 years of experience, the expert stylists at Rush Salon have mastered the technique of properly dyeing hair extensions. Our colour specialists know the ins and outs of working with extensions, from the formulas and techniques to achieving stunning, seamless colour. For this reason, we would always recommend you pop into one of our salons to achieve the best results.

    Key Takeaways

    • Synthetic or artificial hair extensions should not be dyed as they cannot properly absorb dye and may become damaged.
    • Only high-quality human hair extensions made from Remy’s hair can be successfully dyed.
    • When dyeing human hair extensions, work in small sections, detangle hair before applying semi-permanent dye from roots to tips, follow exact timing instructions, rinse thoroughly, and deep condition afterwards.
    • Dyeing dramatically lifts shade for a long-lasting colour change, while toning subtly enhances tone and lasts 4-6 weeks.
    • To maintain the quality of dyed extensions, avoid overprocessing with harsh chemicals like bleach, limit dyeing to only once, and use sulphate-free products for gentle care.

    Can You Dye Hair Extensions?

At rush salon, we use high-quality human hair extensions made from Remy hair. But before you dye your extensions, it’s important to understand the difference between human and artificial hair.

Artificial hair extensions are made from synthetic fibres. They are much cheaper than human hair extensions, but have a different texture and do not blend as seamlessly with natural hair. Artificial fibres also cannot be dyed or heat styled without damage.

Human hair extensions are made from real human hair that has been ethically sourced. The best quality human hair extensions are Remy hair, which means the cuticles are kept intact and aligned all in the same direction. This creates a more natural look and makes them easier to style. Human hair can be dyed, heat styled, and treated just like your own hair.

Only human hair extensions can be dyed successfully. However, we do not recommend doing this with box dye at home, instead, visit one of our salons so we can help you achieve the perfect colour. Trying to dye synthetic extensions will only damage them.

What Are The Different Types Of Hair Extensions? *add link to blog once uploaded*

Now that you know whether or not your extensions are dye-able, let’s get into how to properly dye human hair extensions…

Can You Dye Artificial Hair Extensions?

In short, no you can’t.  You should not attempt to dye synthetic or artificial hair extensions. The material of synthetic extensions is not able to absorb dye pigments properly. Trying to dye artificial extensions will likely damage the fibres leading them to become dry, brittle, and tangled.

The dye may also simply rinse out and not adhere at all to the synthetic fibres. Some plastic extension fibres can even melt under the chemical processing of dye. Bottom line – dyeing artificial hair extensions is ineffective at best and damaging to the extensions at worst. If you want to change the colour of your artificial extensions, your only option is to purchase a new set in the desired colour.

Can You Dye Human Hair Extensions?

Yes, it is possible to dye human hair extensions, but it should be done carefully by a professional stylist for the best results. Human hair extensions are made from real hair that can absorb and take to dye, similar to the hair on your head. However, the process of colouring extensions is more intricate than dyeing your own hair.

The stylist needs to apply the dye evenly from root to tip and seal the cuticles properly to achieve an even colour without damage.

Going to a hair salon ensures proper products and techniques are used so that your expensive human hair extensions are not inadvertently ruined by an at-home dye job gone wrong.

If you’re considering adding dimension to your hair extensions, you might be wondering about the difference between babylights and highlights. Learn more about these techniques in our comparison of Babylights Vs Highlights.

How to Dye Human Hair Extensions Step by Step

While it’s best to have a professional hair stylist dye hair extensions, especially if you plan to dye your hair at the same time, it is possible to carefully dye extensions at home. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Choose the Right Dye

    • It’s important to use a semi-permanent or demi-permanent dye formulated for human hair extensions.
    • Permanent dyes can damage the hair.
    • Using a demi-permanent dye will provide vivid colour while keeping extensions in good condition.

Step 2: Separate Extensions into Sections

    • Separate your hair extensions into smaller sections.
    • Dyeing in one big bunch will lead to uneven colour results.

Step 3: Thoroughly Brush and Detangle

    • Brush through each section to ensure there are no tangles or knots before applying dye.
    • A light spritz of water can help the hair glide through the brush and create a smooth surface for dyeing.

    Step 4: Apply Dye Section-by-Section

    • Use a tint brush to apply dye to one section at a time, saturating each section completely from root to tip.
    • Avoid getting dye on attachment clips or bands.
    • Gently rubbing the dye into the hair with your fingers helps penetration.

    Step 5: Process the Dye

    • Follow exact timing instructions for the dye you are using.
    • Lighter shades process faster than darker shades.
    • Dry extensions also take colour quicker than wet hair. Most semi-permanent dyes need 20-30 minutes to fully develop.

    Step 6: Rinse Thoroughly

    • Rinse each section under cool running water, directing the stream downwards to avoid matting. Rinse until water runs clear.
    • Give hair a gentle shampoo to remove residual dye. Let dry completely before wearing.

    Toning vs Dyeing Hair Extensions

Toning and dyeing hair extensions are similar processes but have some key differences. The colour results from toning are more subtle, like going from brassy blonde to ash blonde. It will not lighten hair the way dyeing does.

Toning involves applying a demi- or semi-permanent hair colour to eliminate brassy or unwanted tones in the hair. Toners are deposit-only colours, meaning they can only deposit new colours without lifting or lightening the existing shade. Toners use low levels of developer and are meant to enhance or alter the hair’s undertones subtly. They last 4-6 weeks and gradually fade away with washing.

Dyeing uses permanent hair colour to completely change the shade of the hair. This lifts the cuticle and deposits new colour into the cortex of the hair for long-lasting results. Dyeing uses developer levels to open the cuticle and achieve permanent, dramatic colour changes like going from brunette to blonde.

For best results when toning or dyeing extensions, have them coloured by a professional stylist. They can assess your hair and choose the proper toner or dye to achieve your desired look. Be sure to properly care for extensions after colouring by washing gently with sulphate-free shampoo.

Tips & Advice from our Experts

When dyeing hair extensions at home, follow these pro tips from our stylists:

    • Always detangle extensions thoroughly before applying dye to prevent uneven results.
    • Only dye extensions once – multiple dye jobs will damage the quality.
    • Avoid getting dye on attachment clips, wefts, or bonds as it can corrode adhesives.
    • Use a semi-permanent or demi-permanent dye to prevent damage.
    • Process for the minimum time recommended to preserve texture.
    • Rinse dye thoroughly until water runs clear.
    • Apply a deep conditioning treatment after rinsing out the dye.

For post-dye care, be gentle and use products designed for processed hair. We recommend using a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner to gently cleanse colour-treated extensions.

Avoid overwashing, brush hair gently, and apply a weekly treatment to restore bonds. With proper techniques and aftercare, your dyed extensions will retain their vibrancy and feel soft, shiny, and beautiful. Our experts are here to help you get stunning results!

    FAQs

    • Can I bleach hair extensions?

Yes, you can bleach human hair extensions but it requires caution. Bleach is very harsh and damaging so only use a professional stylist-grade lightener, follow instructions carefully, and avoid overprocessing. Test the lightener on a small section first to check the results before applying it all over.

    • How often can I bleach extensions?

We recommend only bleaching extensions once, any more will severely compromise integrity. Always deep condition after lightening.

    • Can you dye permanent extensions while they’re in your hair?

Generally, it’s not recommended to dye permanent hair extensions while they’re installed in your hair. Applying harsh chemical dyes directly to the extensions can corrode or damage the attachments causing shedding and fallout. The safest option is to have your permanent extensions removed before dyeing.

    • How do I colour-match my extensions?

We recommend getting colour-matched by one of our stylists. They can expertly match extensions to your natural hair colour and tone.

If colour-matching yourself, we advise using your regrowth area as your roots best reflect your natural colour. Hold extensions beside your roots in natural daylight to compare.

The Beginner’s Guide To Building A Hair Care Routine

Discover our ultimate guide to building a healthy hair care routine. No matter your hair type or hairstyle, check out our expert tips for beautiful hair today!

At one time or another, we’ve all been faced with starting over when it comes to our hair. Perhaps it’s a case of one too many trips to the bleach or saying ‘enough’ when it comes to chemically straightening our hair.

For others it might simply be time to start a haircare journey. Whatever you need, just know that the team at Rush have got you covered. There’s no need to be intimidated, we’re here with you all the way. So, let’s go!

    Key Takeaways

    • Determine your hair type (straight, wavy, curly, coily) and establish your hair care goals to select the right products and treatments.
    • Follow a basic routine of cleansing, conditioning, treating specific concerns (e.g., split ends, dry scalp), and detangling to prevent breakage.
    • Consult with a stylist for customized style and product recommendations; simplicity in your routine can lead to healthier hair.
    • Regularly assess for product buildup and adjust your hair care practices accordingly to maintain hair health.

What to think about before you build your Hair Care routine?

Building a haircare routine is very similar to creating a skincare regime – you need to look at what you’re working with, and where you want to be.

When it comes to your hair, this means you need to look at three specific things: your hair type, your hairstyle and your goals. Let’s look at each of these areas more closely.

    Your Hair Type

You might not realise this, but there are four hair types, which each have their own subcategories. We’ve listed them below so you can decide which one sounds most like you.

Type 1a Hair – this is hair that’s super straight and fine. You might find it almost impossible to hold a curl and find that you’re often wishing it had a little more volume.

Type 1b Hair – this is slightly less straight and has a little more volume. You probably still find yourself reaching for hairspray a lot!

Type 1c Hair – this is poker straight hair that others would kill for! This is hair that will not curl, no matter what.

Type 2a Hair – you have a soft wave throughout your hair and often find yourself straightening it.

Type 2b Hair – you’re officially wavy and often like to play up that texture with salt sprays and dry shampoo.

Type 2c Hair – you’re as close to curls as can be, but still in wavy territory.

Type 3a Hair – welcome to the curl gang! You officially have some bounce to your curls but they are more of a loose spring.

Type 3b Hair – nice, round, bouncy curls that love moisture.

Type 3c Hair – these curls can be plucked and stretched and will bounce straight back.

Type 4a Hair – welcome to coily territory! Type 4 is the most common hair type for black women and people with afro hair.

Type 4b Hair – this is a super springy z-shaped coil that can be deceptively long! You might often find yourself using products or styling techniques aimed at elongating the curl.

Type 4c Hair – the most beautiful, most coily hair type of them all.

    Your Hairstyle

Once you know your hair type, it’s time to consider how you like to wear it, and this is where you need to really get down to the details.

It might sound great to rock curls every day, but if those curls require a good amount of maintenance on the daily, that might not work if you have to be at work for 8am!

The same goes for wanting a poker straight bob if your natural Type 3c curls are desperate to be free.

That doesn’t mean that any style is impossible; it just means taking time out to think.

    • Consider how much time you have and how much time you are willing to spend on your hair each day or week.
    • Consider your budget – perhaps a bi-monthly cut and style is best as opposed to extensive colour work that requires you come in as soon as re-growth starts to show.
    • Consider what you’ll need to maintain the desired look at home; is it just about products or do you need new styling tools too?

Rush expert tip: Sometimes it’s so easy to imagine what we’d like, from our point of view but there’s a lot to be gained by booking a consultation at the nearest Rush salon. Spending time with a stylist means you’ll get expert feedback on what suits your skintone, your face shape and your lifestyle.

Your Hair Care Routine for healthy hair

    1. Cleanse

Going back to the skincare model, it all starts with cleansing. If you have straight, fine hair, you might opt for lightweight shampoos, but if you’re a coily girl who loves to layer products, then you’ll benefit from a pre-shampoo and then a deep cleanse with a clarifying shampoo.

Having a clean scalp and hair means that your products are going to work more effectively and the pores on your scalp won’t become clogged or blocked up from too many products.

    2. Condition

Once you’ve sufficiently cleansed, it’s time to focus on the number one healthy hair factor; hydration.

Again, it’s about assessing your hair type’s needs; you might have seriously curly hair that seems to drink up heavy and hydrating conditioners, but if you’re super fine, you might just need light hydration focused on your ends to avoid any greasy feeling.

A great option for straight and fine hair is a light leave-in conditioning spray that can be used as and when needed.

    3. Treat

This is a really important part of any beginner’s haircare routine, because it is all about focusing on something specific to you.

This might mean a bonding oil for split ends, or a scalp treatment for irritated and dry skin. Think of these as topical treatments that you can use daily, often in the form of sprays and finishing oils.

A treat that most of us could do with is a weekly hydration mask – think of this as an intense take on your conditioning step. Sufficiently hydrated hair is far less likely to become dry, tangled and prone to breakage.

    4. Detangle

By leaving out the crucial step of detangling your hair, you could experience much more hair loss, breakage and dryness. The key step to detangling correctly for all hair types is to do it while the hair is damp, but please use a wide tooth comb or tangle teaser!

This is not the time to use a dense brush – you will literally wrench the hair from your scalp and experience potential damage to not only the hair, but also the follicle.

Detangling is not about rushing; a great time to do it is when you’re at your conditioning stage because then you will be fully detangled by the time you’re ready to start using your styling products.

    5. Prepare Before Styling

Now you’re almost ready to style, think about the products you need. If you have wavy hair and you want a voluminous blowout that lasts all day, you’ll want to use volumizing mousses and hairsprays.

If you’re type 4c and ready to undo your twist-out, you’ll be reaching for products that hydrate as well as a gel that offers hold to retain your curls for longer.

If products seem like a minefield you’re not quite ready for, feel free to reach out to your local Rush salon and ask for some expert advice!

    6. Style

When it comes to styling your hair, it’s always going to be an experiment until you’ve found the right products and tools for you.

Hair is this amazing accessory that we all get to play with, just like our clothes! It’s all about what suits you and your lifestyle – most importantly, have fun and…

    Remember

    • Keeping things simple will make your life easier. Focus on Cleansing, Conditioning and Treating and your hair will be healthy and happy.
    • When it comes to daily styling, never overload your hair. Get used to touching your hair and you will soon notice when you have product build-up or if you’ve used something that has too much oil or alcohol in it.
    • If in doubt, strip things right back and seek advice at your nearest Rush salon.

We all have to start somewhere and with the right products and advice, taking care of your hair will become second nature. If you ever feel stuck, your trusted experts at Rush are there to help.

  • MAX FACTOR Lipfinity 120 Hot

    MAX FACTOR Lipfinity 120 Hot

    MAX FACTOR Lipfinity 120 Hot

These have been around for a long time and they were the first 2-step lipsticks came across. I wanted to try these, but the shade range is so frosty. I checked the limited selection we have in drugstores and there was nothing I’d wear daily. I was sent this shade and it’s a red, which is my second default shade after basic nudes when it comes to picking colours. It’s liquid lipstick that boasts with long lasting colour that is achieved by using the Top Coat, similar to Revlon Colorstay Overtime and Rimmel Provocalips Kiss-Proof.

This is a two step lipstick with a liquid lipstick and a balmy top coat. Liquid lipstick is only semi-opaque with first coat, so I build it up with a second, thicker coat. It says it sets in a minute, but the way I apply it, it’s a minute or two longer, but it does dry to a type of matte finish and the lipstick barely transfers. Then you apply the top coat over it, which makes the shade glossy. The top coat is so soft, I never experienced a balm in a stick form that’s so creamy, it’s actually hard to apply without damaging the shape of the top coat a lot. This also means the top coat very likely runs out much faster than the liquid lipstick. I’m not sure if MF sells the top coat separately, but I’ve got a feeling a lot of people need a new tube fast. You can of course use the liquid lipstick on its own.

Lip colour with the “sealer” lasts through anything, from drinking, eating or touching the lips, however, after about 8-9 h it started to peel on me and bits feel off, so my lip colour looked uneven. It’s a lipstick that doesn’t move with the lips, so I’m not surprised it started to crack. It feels like a layer (the way I apply it, so with two coats to better coverage) and it’s somewhat dry if you don’t reapply the balmy top coat. It doesn’t stay glossy that long.

120 Hot is a warm tomato red that isn’t very intense even when built up. It has some frosty shimmer, but it’s not obvious.

I keep my review in drafts for ages and when I was writing this review these were 12,49 € in DM and now they are a whopping 15,69 €. I’ve seen these cheaper online. I feel this formula needs an update after so many years, but then it’s likely been so popular for so long and those who love it wouldn’t except the change well. From these two part lipsticks my vote goes to Revlon, which is my choice for days when I need my lip colour to last through everything and isn’t as rigid on the lips as Max Factor.

  • Are These the Bridal Manicure Trends Setting 2024 on Fire?

Are These the Bridal Manicure Trends Setting 2024 on Fire?

As the wedding season unfolds, brides-to-be are not just fussing over dresses and venues but are also keen on nailing their bridal look down to the last detail — their manicure. Gone are the days when a simple French tip would do. In 2024, bridal manicures have take a front seat in the wedding fashion scene, showcasing trends that are as unique and personalized as the weddings themselves. Let’s dive into the trends that are making waves this season, ensuring every bride’s nails are as picture-perfect as her special day.

    The Classic Reinvented

One manicure style that has undoubtedly stood the test of time is the French manicure. However, the classic French manicure has undergone a transformation, emerging as a favorite with a twist. Brides are now opting for variations in colors, shapes, and details, making this traditional choice anything but ordinary. Think thin, delicate lines, unexpected color combos, and playful accents like tiny pearls or delicate lace patterns that mirror the bride’s dress. This reinvented classic is a nod to tradition, with a personal touch that ties in beautifully with the overall bridal ensemble.

    Minimalist Chic

With minimalism still sweeping the globe as a lifestyle, the minimalist bride is not uncommon. For the bride who embodies the ‘less is more’ philosophy, minimalist designs are the go-to. This trend focuses on clean lines, subtle colors, and a clear, uncluttered look. A single stripe, a tiny heart, or a dot of sparkle on an otherwise nude nail can make a statement without overwhelming. This approach to bridal nails is elegant, modern, and perfectly in line with wedding fashion trends that lean towards simplicity and sophistication.

    Bold in Color

Who says bridal nails have to be pale and interesting? 2024 is seeing an uptick in brides daring to be different with bold colors. From deep blues and greens to rich burgundies, these choices are not for the faint-hearted but for the bride looking to add a pop of color to her look. Paired with the right bridal nail polish, these vibrant hues can complement the wedding theme, bouquet, or even the bride’s personality, making for a striking and memorable manicure.

    Glitter and Glam

For the bride aiming to sparkle her way down the aisle, glitter and metallics offer the perfect opportunity to shine. Full-on glitter nails, metallic accents, or ombre effects using metallic paints provide that glamorous touch suitable for evening receptions or add a bit of drama to the bridal look. This trend allows brides to play with light and texture, ensuring their nails catch the eye (and the light) in every photograph.

    Nature-Inspired Nails

Drawing inspiration from nature, this trend incorporates floral designs, leaf patterns, and even the ethereal beauty of marble into nail art. Watercolor flowers, delicate vines, or marble swirls in soft pastels create a romantic and whimsical look that echoes outdoor settings, floral arrangements, and the overall natural aesthetic of many 2024 weddings. These designs can be as detailed or as subtle as the bride prefers, making for a truly personalized touch.

    Custom Artwork

Personalization takes center stage, with custom artwork becoming a significant trend among brides. From initials and wedding dates to tiny portraits or symbols that hold special meaning, these designs are as unique as the love stories they represent. Working with a skilled nail artist, brides can bring their vision to life, ensuring their nails are not just an accessory but a meaningful part of their wedding day ensemble.

Perfectly Polished: Your Dream Wedding Nails Await

As we wrap up our dive into the bridal manicure trends of 2024, it’s clear that personalization, creativity, and a touch of boldness are defining this year’s wedding nails. Whether you’re drawn to the updated classics, minimalist elegance, daring color choices, glamorous glitter, nature-inspired designs, or custom artwork, there’s a trend to match every bride’s style and wedding theme. These trends are not just about looking good; they’re about making a statement, expressing individuality, and adding an extra layer of personal significance to the wedding day look. So, as you plan your big day, remember to give your nails the attention they deserve — after all, they’ll be front and center as you exchange rings and say your “I dos.”

  • ESSENCE Baby Got Blush 01 Tickle me pink

ESSENCE Baby Got Blush 01 Tickle me pink

ESSENCE Baby Got Blush 01 Tickle me pink

These little sticks have had quite a moment since they launched. It took me months to track one down, since the Essence stand here has been more empty than full in the last year. Actually even a few days ago there wasn’t a single one of these on the stand – I don’t know if its because they are so popular or because Essence has supply issues. There are three shades available, so far I’ve only seen two. The other two are an orange and brick red shade. There are also bronzers which I haven’t had a chance to swatch yet. Baby Got Blush became my go-to blush.

Formula is quite stiff and it doesn’t glide very smoothly on the cheek. In fact it can take off foundation if you just swipe it directly on the skin. I know, it doesn’t sound good, but this is one of the nicest blushes I’ve tried so far. I always use a small round medium dense blush brush for application. I just swipe on the stick and then stipple the blush on the cheeks. This creates a beautiful pink flush with diffused edges. Pigmentation is about medium, so I apply two layers.

This shade is a winner for me. It’s a cute leaning-to-cool pink – it was a rarity in my collection, since such shades always pull warm on me and this one creates a proper baby doll flush. Recently I got similar shades from Essence and Catrice, both were launched in the last month: it’s the new Blush Affair (010) and Baby Got Blush the Liquid Version (10). So if you can’t find this stick and you like this shade, there are two alternatives, which are more pigmented. Finish is satin and it has no shimmer.

The stick has quite a strong scent of watermelon. Staying power is good on my (dry) skin and it’s on at least 8 hours later.

These are around 3 € in drugstores. If you can find them, but like I said, but now there are at least alternatives for the shade.
